BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Confetti from a parade float caused a power outage in Bridgport Sunday afternoon, officials with the utility company said.

United Illuminating officials said a confetti cannon on a parade float shot confetti into overhead power lines, causing the lines to short.

One of the wires burned and caused a power outage in the area, officials said.

United Illuminating officials said the incident initially knocked out power to about 2,000 customers. They said most of the customers had power restored within an hour.
