Section Of Wall Collapses At Mall

Facade Falls Inside Connecticut Post Mall

UPDATED: 8:07 pm EDT July 13, 2009

A section of facade at the Connecticut Post Mall fell Monday, injuring a bystander, police said.

Police said a piece of the facade fell inside the mall after 11 a.m.

One mall customer, indentified as a 27-year-old man, suffered minor injuries, police said. The man was taken to an area hospital.

The section was described as a 200-foot piece of wall outside the Sears on the mall's second floor that covers wires and from which store signs hang.

Mall stores, including PMC and Hot Topic, were forced to close because of the collapse.

The mall, however, remained open while crews started clearing the damage. Police said large tarps were put up so crews could work.

Customers said the timing of the incident is the only reason nobody was seriously hurt. They said that if it was a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, the situation could have been much worse.
