Social Worker Accused In Sex Assault

Man Facing 5 Counts Of Risk Of Injury To Minor Charges

A Vernon social worker has been charged in the sexual assault of a boy.

James Oliphant, 59, was taken into police custody on Tuesday.

Oliphant is facing one charge of sex assault in the first degree and five counts of risk of injury to a minor.

Oliphant is a longtime social worker at Skinner Road Elementary School. He has been suspended without pay.

Police said the victim did not attend the school.

He was released on a $150,000 bond and is scheduled for arraignment on Sept. 10.
