WATERTOWN, Conn. -- Waterbury police officer Francis Brevetti, of Wolcott, has been arrested on drug charges.Police said Brevetti, 29, of Wolcott, was charged with possession of cocaine, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, possession of narcotics with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a school, possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of marijuana with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a school and possession of drug paraphernalia.Brevetti was arrested Thursday afternoon in Watertown and has been released on a $100,000 bond.He is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 29.Waterbury police officials said Brevetti was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation.Family friend Joe Baumeister described Brevetti as a "very nice person."Brevetti was the star running back on the Watertown High School football team. When he graduated he stayed in the area working his way onto the Waterbury Police Department like his father.Last weekend, Brevetti crashed his truck in Watertown. When police arrived, they treated him for a head injury. When police towed his truck, they said that they discovered drugs including marijuana and cocaine.Brevetti's attorney said that he is a decorated officer and that he failed to submit seized drug property during a recent stake out. Instead, he left it in his police duty bag in the back of his truck.
