A Naugatuck teen was arrested Friday in connection with the death of her grandmother.

Angelina Jamele was charged with murder in connection with the death of Italia Liguori, 69. Liguori’s body was found inside her Naugatuck condo on Sept. 30.

Jamele was sent to a Department of Children and Families facility for a psychiatric evaluation following Liguori’s death.

Jamele was arraigned on the charge late Friday morning. Her bond was set at $800,000 and a guardian from the state was appointed to her.

Police said that Jamele confessed to killing her grandmother and gave them a written statement.

According to the statement, Jamele said, "I kept hitting her. She kept hitting so I went beserk and I knocked her down with the cane. I hit her on the head. I also punched her. I also did stomp on her while she was down and I kept pressure on her neck with my feet. Then I began to jump on her stomach."

According to police, when they first arrived Jamele would not come to the door, saying that her grandmother was dead and she didn't want to walk by her body. Police said that when the teen first called 911, she told dispatchers that she woke up and her house was ransacked and that her grandmother was dead.

A neighbor told Eyewitness News after Liguori’s death that she was awakened around 2 a.m. by what she believed was a loud argument coming from inside the home where the woman's body was discovered.
