More Schools Close To Battle Flu Threat

Region 10 Will Be Closed For Remainder Of Week

School officials from Region 10 have made the decision to close schools for the remainder of the week to fight the growing battle against the spread of the H1N1 flu virus.

On Tuesday, officials reported that 800 students, or 27 percent of the total student population, were out with the flu.

Har-Bur Middle School was missing 35 percent of their student body on Tuesday.

Harwinton Consolidated School reported 31 percent of its students were out sick.

Lake Garda School reported 27 percent of its student body was out.

Lewis S. Mills High School had an absentee rate of 15 percent.

Region 10 schools will be closed beginning on Wednesday and will reopen on Monday.

Officials from Region 10 said that the school system builds in six snow days for the school year and because of this flu outbreak, they will use three of them.
