East Haven Activates Reverse 911 System

System Activated TellingParents To Keep Sick Children Home From School

POSTED: 8:32 pm EDT October 27, 2009
UPDATED: 8:48 pm EDT October 27, 2009

Some parents in East Haven received a call from the towns emergency reverse 911 system with a message from East Haven Academy principal.

The message was sent out on Monday night after a high number of absences related to the flu.

The messages being sent out in East Haven and all across Connecticut are the same, if your child is sick and running a fever, then keep the child home.

Not all parents in East Haven received the message on Monday night. That’s because all of the other schools in the city are seeing an average number of absences.

The next question on school officials mind is when is the cutoff point to decide when to close school.

Officials in other towns seem to believe that if a school has an absentee rate of 40 percent or higher, it is just not feasible to hold classes.
