NEW BRITAIN, Conn -- Three people were assaulted and one was shot early Friday morning in New Britain, police said.

Police said the assault occurred on Washington Street at about 3 a.m.

New Britain police said the three victims encountered their assailants outside an apartment building. Police said the victims did not know their attackers, and that the assault may have been a robbery with a motive.

Police said two men and one woman were assaulted, and one of the three was shot. None of the victims are believed to be life-threatening, police said.

Police said the four attackers are men and may have left the scene in a dark van.
