UPDATED: 7:29 pm EST November 4, 2009

A man struck by a vehicle in Farmington Wednesday morning has died, police said.

Police said the man was struck on Brickyard Road at about 7:40 a.m.

The man was airlifted to Hartford Hospital, where he later died.

Drivers said it is a busy road and there are not many sidewalks for pedestrians to use.

Police said that Brickyard Road would remain closed for several hours between routes 4 and 167 while reconstruction teams tried to piece together why the SUV struck the pedestrian. They urged drivers to plan an alternate route.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is urged to contact the Farmington Police Department by dialing 860-675-2400.

The victim's identity has not been released. The incident remains under investigation.
