BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Police in Bridgeport said that one man is dead after a car he was riding in crashed during a police chase.Police said an officer was trying to pull the car over because the license plate came back as a car that was wanted in connection with an incident involving weapons. The Bridgeport Police Department called the Fairfield Police Department to tell them that they were looking for a vehicle.Police said that while they were out looking for that vehicle, it crashed. The car sped down the road and clipped a wall, which caused it to spin out, according to police. Police said the car then smashed into the foundation of a house and crashed into a different wall before coming to a rest.Witnesses said that after the crash, a man was spotted walking from behind another house. Police chased the man and hopped a fence. They landed on the car they were initially chasing.Police said 23-year-old Taijon Merrell, who was a passenger in the car, died from his injuries on Wednesday night.Police said they stopped chasing the other suspect after seeing the condition that Merrell was in and got him help. The man who ran from the scene later checked himself into the hospital. He has not been arrested.Police are looking into why the two men ran.
