WOLCOTT, Conn. -- Wolcott Police Officer Brian Spiotti is accused of assaulting a suspect in custody earlier this year and the reported assault was caught on tape.Wednesday was supposed to be the final court appearance for Spiotti but a Waterbury judge decided not to grant him accelerated rehabilitation.Spiotti is on light desk duty at the Wolcott Police Department. He was removed from his patrol job after he booked a drunken driving suspect and reportedly assaulted him during the process.Spiotti's attorney said he was using appropriate force to control the suspect.Spiotti had hoped to be granted accelerated rehabilitation in the case. Under the program, the charge would likely be expunged after 13 months. The judge said he had watched the video and because he holds public officials to high standards, he would not grant him accelerated rehabilitation.Spiotti said he felt this was a case of reverse discrimination on the judge's part.
