Suspected Burglar On The Loose In Cromwell
Schools Locked Down; Residents Advised To Stay In Homes During Pursuit
School officials lifted the lock down in Cromwell Friday afternoon, but police said the search continued for a suspected burglar.In addition, Cromwell police advised residents to stay inside their homes.After a pair of daytime burglaries in Rocky Hill this week, police were out talking to residents trying to gather more information when they saw a car that matched the description of a car leaving one of the burglary scenes.Then a chase began.At one time, as many as four K-9 units along with well over a dozen police officers worked a perimeter in the area of Main Street and Parkview Place in Cromwell.The man ditched his green Ford Escort, which turned out to be stolen, and took off into the woods, police saidAs a precaution, police urged people nearby to lock themselves in their homes. Also, all of Cromwell schools and a day care were put into lock down for just over an hour.By mid-afternoon Friday, police scaled back their search. However, police are still warning neighbors to be on the lookout for anything suspicious.The man was described as white, possibly Hispanic, man with a mohawk haircut in his early 20s. He weighs about 160 pounds and is believed to be wearing a white or light gray sweatshirt.
