OLD SAYBROOK, Conn. -- Old Saybrook police arrested an 18-year-old and charged him with larceny after several stolen high-end SUV mirrors began showing up on eBay.The investigation began four weeks ago after a night time event at a local church.Police said someone who owned a GM SUV went outside and discovered his expensive rear-view mirrors were stolen.Officer Ryan Walsh investigated as many as seven vehicles that had their mirrors cut off.Walsh said, “You know there's a market for everything out there. You could be anybody and just like a tag sale people will buy anything.”Walsh looked on eBay for SUV mirrors that matched those that were stolen. He discovered a pair that were being offered for $15. He also discovered a reflection, likely the suspect’s bedroom. That, along with the help of social Web sites like Facebook, helped him narrow his list of suspects.Walsh said, “It was just a case that had a lot of circumstantial evidence that led to down different roads.”Justin Grebasch of Old Saybrook was arrested and charged in connection with the thefts. Grebasch turned himself in and was released on bond. Police said the suspect admitted to having the mirrors. After checking in with various dealerships, the cost of replacing the mirrors range from $150 to $710.
