Cruiser Struck Twice At DUI Checkpoint
Man Involved In 2nd Crash Arrested On Assault Charges

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Police said a cruiser was struck twice in Fairfield during a DUI checkpoint Wednesday night.Officers said a vehicle operated by Steven Peterson, of Bridgeport, crashed into an unoccupied cruiser at a DUI checkpoint on Post Road.Police said Peterson was taken out of his vehicle by police, and the car’s passenger, identified as Juan Alex Leon Toj, of Bridgeport, then began driving the car from the passenger’s seat.Police said Toj used the vehicle to push the police cruiser about 1,400 feet into an oncoming car.The car, driven by Michael Gullberg, of Florida, struck the cruiser head-on.Police said Gullberg then began arguing with his girlfriend after the crash. Officers said the couple was arguing about the amount of sympathy Gullberg was receiving from the girlfriend and assaulted the woman during the argument. He was arrested on disorderly conduct charges.Both Toj and Peterson were taken to Bridgeport Hospital. Gullberg refused medical attention, police said.
