Repair Takes Several Hours

UPDATED: 2:49 pm EST December 29, 2009

Crews in Hartford responded to a water main break on Martin Street Tuesday morning.

Hartford resident James Little stepped out of his Martin Street home and noticed something strange.

Little said, "The whole ground was just like bubbling around and when I stepped on a piece of it and my foot went down in the hole."

Officials said there was a 6-inch break in the water main, which was built in 1911.

Police said Martin Street between Risley and Charlotte streets was blocked off while crews repaired the break.

Most businesses were able to get through the day without water. However, a laundromat was at a standstill.

At first, officials said the repairs would take up to eight hours to complete but it was done within two.
