CROMWELL, Conn. -- A child was taken to the hospital after a fire at a Cromwell home Sunday night.The fire broke out at a home on Washington Road around 7:20 p.m.A youth inside the home ran two houses down to the deputy fire chief’s home to report the fire. The youth was taken to an area hospital for minor smoke inhalation and possible affects of cold.“At this point, all we know was there was one occupant, there was the son. He went to our deputy chief’s house, which is a couple of houses down the street with the dog, reported that the house was on fire,” said Cromwell Fire Chief Donald Quick.Police said the fire was confined to a couch and part of the family’s Christmas tree.Firefighters rescued three cats and a bird from the home, which they said suffered heavy smoke damage.The fire marshal is investigating the fire’s cause.
