HARTFORD, Conn. -- The state Department of Labor said the Telebenefits phone claim numbers that people call about their unemployment benefits are working again after failing early Sunday morning. But officials warned that callers might get busy signals given a high call volume.A software problem began Sunday at about 12:30 a.m. with the TeleBenefits phone numbers. The Department of Labor called in its vendor, which worked through the night to repair the issue. It was repaired by early Sunday afternoon. The Web site unemployment system continued to work, so people can file through that system. So far since 12:01a.m. Sunday, about 30,000 people have filed.Department spokeswoman Nancy Steffens said many people who file for continued unemployment claims each week call the claims in on Sunday because the new claim week starts on Sunday at 12:01a.m. These claims take about two days to process. So the earliest a person can receive an unemployment check is on Tuesday.
