Woman Beaten In NYC Bar Restroom

NEW YORK -- A man has been charged in connection with the attack and attempted rape of a Connecticut woman at a New York City bar.Police said Mbarek Lafrem, 30, of Pennsylvania, attacked and tried to rape the 29-year-old victim.Police said Lafrem beat the woman in a bar restroom after she allegedly rejected his advances.Lafrem was charged Friday with assault and attempted rape. Chief police spokesman Paul Browne said Lafrem was working at a midtown construction site and was staying at a hotel near the bar. He said Lafrem's co-workers contacted authorities after they saw him in a video released by police. Authorities said the attack occurred early Thursday at a bar called Social in midtown Manhattan. The victim told authorities a man followed her into a stall of a women's room and beat her. She was hospitalized with a broken eye socket and other injuries.
