MERIDEN, Conn. -- A Meriden nursing home was evacuated Sunday morning after water leaked onto an electrical panel.Cocomo Memorial Health nursing home was evacuated early Sunday morning because of the potential for the facility to lose power, officials said.Officials said the heavy rains caused water to threaten the electrical structure of the building. The fire marshal determined it would be safer because of the potential for the facility to lose power."The rain has wreaked havoc on homes, businesses -- now it's our turn," said Brian Bedard of Apple Health. "Even though we didn't lose power, the opportunity to lose power existed so it made sense to evacuate then wait for loss of power."The Cone Avenue facility is home to 84 residents who were moved to local area facilities."I just came by to give my mom breakfast and found out they were evacuated," said Lynn Dougan, of Meriden.Officials said they are working to determine how water got into the conduit. They said it could take a few days to get the nursing home back in service.
