Dog Nabs Alleged Bank Robber

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. -- An alleged bank robber is now behind bars, thanks in part to Drack the dog.Robert John Lewis is in police custody after allegedly robbing a Webster Bank in New Britain around 11 a.m. Thursday.The man passed the bank's teller a note demanding cash. After his request was met, the man left the bank, according to police.Police said that once outside the bank, witnesses chased the man. During the chase, the paint bag inside the bag of cash exploded and Lewis dropped the money in the parking lot. Lewis ran into the woods, getting away from his pursuers, police said.According to police, Drack found the man in the woods and bit him in the leg."We deployed the dog and the dog was able to find him hiding in the wood line," said Joe Capodiferro of the Farmington Police Department.Lewis is currently at the hospital recovering from the bite wounds and is expected to appear in court Friday.Stay with WFSB.com and Channel 3 Eyewitness News for the latest news updates.
