Court documents detail the moments leading up to a high school fight that left one student in critical condition.

On Monday, court papers were unsealed that describe how a brutal fight at Manchester High School may have been the result of a gang-related fight several days earlier. Students who witnessed the bloody beating inside the school couldn't say for sure why it happened.

"When I got there, one teacher was on the phone calling security, and security was rushing down the hallway," said student Casey Mallon.

According to court documents, after the attack, a school administrator told police "the fight was in retaliation for a fight that occurred in Charter Oak Park two days ago when a gang from East Hartford … fought with some Manchester High School students."

The main suspect in the case is a 17-year-old student. He told police that the fight had nothing to do with the fight at Charter Oak Park and that the beating was because of the way the victim looked at him, according to court documents.

The documents also indicate that a second 17-year-old student who was charged in connection with a more minor role in the fight told investigators that when he saw the man suspect on the bus that morning, "he told him that he got jumped (by a gang) at Charter oak Park two days ago … told him that when he saw someone (from that gang) he was going to him and get himself suspended."

According to documents, the school's closed circuit TV captured the 15-year-old victim being pummeled, and blood being splattered everywhere.

The victim's father told police that there was bleeding in two areas of his son's brain.

Beyond the closed circuit TV recording of the fight, the documents claim that a student captured the altercation -- presumably on a camera phone.

The victim remains hospitalized after undergoing brain surgery.
