NORWICH, Conn. -- Victims of the Peachtree Apartment fire in Norwich are receiving a helping hand this week. The fire victims are being offered low-interest loans to help them get back on their feet after losing everything in a six-alarm fire. The fast-moving fire destroyed the 120-unit complex two weeks ago, and 150 tenants escaped the blaze. The Small Business Administration set up shop on Monday to begin assisting the former tenants.
Beginning on Tuesday, tenants and business owners will be able to apply for low-interest SBA loans. The money will enable many to replace what personal property was lost in the flames. An office is being set up in City Hall for fire victims to make out the loan applications -- which will be as low as 3 percent.
