The next phase of Mohegan Sun's Project Horizon expansion, a 39-story hotel tower with "The House of Blues," officially kicked off Wednesday with a groundbreaking event.

The groundbreaking started with a traditional smudge pot ceremony by Tribal Chairman Bruce "Two Dogs" Bozum and continued as the Chairman slipped into a Blues Brothers costume.

The $925 million Horizon expansion includes Connecticut's tallest building: The 39-story Earth Tower Hotel; House of Blues music hall with its own hotel suites, a two-level venue for live music and retail space.

Tribal Chairman Bozum said the expansion will bring 1,500 new jobs to the region.

Complimenting the House of Blues will be the Foundation Room which will sit on the top of the 39th floor of the hotel and overlook Trading Cove.

Along with Bozum, House of Blues founder and comedian and actor Dan Akroyd attended the groundbreaking.

Construction is under way, and Mohegan tribal members said doors will likely open in 2010.
