The owners of businesses caught in the path of last week's tornado said they're banking on the holiday weekend to help them bounce back financially.

Store owners in Old Wethersfield said that with the sun, they see sales.

In last week's tornado, many store owners reported thousands of dollars in damages and said they were forced to temporarily close, costing them even more money.

They said they're hopeful the holiday weekend will help them recoup the money they've lost since last Friday.

The owner of Brookside Bagels in Old Wethersfield said Friday that it's business as usual now, but that all of the business' perishable food had to be thrown out.

Down the street, huge trees came tumbling down and knocked out power to a popular ice cream shop, causing nearly $10,000 worth of damage.

The owner said every business open on the block is keeping their fingers crossed that business will spike this weekend.

Officials in Wethersfield also said a favorite Fourth of July spot in town also suffered because of the tornado.

Mill Park Pond will be closed this holiday weekend, they said, due to the damage it sustained during last week's tornado.

Officials said it will be a few more days before the 4 million gallon pond is properly filled.
