SEYMOUR, Conn. -- The chairman of Seymour's Republican Town Committee faces charges of impersonating a police officer after police said he used a blue light on his car to try to stop another driver.Police said 44-year-old Brian Koskelowski was charged with criminal impersonation, reckless driving and use of unauthorized colored lights. He was arrested at his home following the incident Wednesday and is due in court July 13.Police said the volunteer fireman, who is son of Seymour First Selectman Robert Koskelowski, flashed the blue light as a vehicle driven by an Ansonia police sergeant sped past him while driving in the breakdown lane on Route 8 in Naugatuck. The sergeant reported the incident to Connecticut State Police and Koskelowski was arrested.Koskelowski said he was only trying to alert the other driver to his presence.Kyle Kelley, the assistant chief for Seymour's Ambulance Association, also serves on the Fire Department with Koskelowski. He said all the volunteers know the purpose of the blue lights."There's a permit you have to sign off on," he said. "We make sure they know the rules and regulations. We keep copies of it as well and send it to the state."Seymour's fire chief said the allegations would be brought up at Monday night's chief's meeting.Officials said no decision about Koskelowski's future as a firefighter has been made.In 2008, Koskelowski paid a fine after pulling over a car in Seymour.
