AVON, Conn. -- An Avon family has opened the doors of its home to the public in order to raise funds for a charity this weekend.Chrisse Desopo has lived in the home for the past 23 years. She said the home was dilapidated when she purchased it."I was instructed to go buy a house because I was pregnant with our daughter, Cecily," she said. "I started driving around looking for a home. I didn’t want to have a mortgage, so I wanted to find a home that was affordable. I drove by this home that was a dilapidated wreck, fell in love with it. I thought it was absolutely beautiful even the way it was."The home Desopo envisioned will now welcome visitors from across the state in a fundraiser for My Sister's Place.
The mission of the charity is to end homelessness. The fundraiser is being called Life In The Garden because of the hundreds of flowers that fill the home's gardens.
