Hartford Mayor Joins Crowded Candidate Field
Perez Announces Re-Election Campaign

HARTFORD, Conn. -- Incumbent Hartford Mayor Eddie Perez announced on Monday that he will fight the growing list of candidates for his job in next year's primary.Perez kicked off his campaign for re-election for a third term at the Rawson Elementary School.The mayor claimed a reduction in serious crime and new housing under construction in the city.The list of Democrats running for the office includes Hartford state Rep. Minnie Gonzales, Raul De Jesus, former deputy mayor I. Charles Mathews, former state Sen. Frank Barrows and state Rep. Art Feltman. Republican J. Stan McCauley announced his candidacy last month.Thirman Milner, the city's Democratic mayor from the 1980s, filed papers to form an exploratory committee and said he may run as an Independent.
