HARTFORD, Conn. -- State lawmakers and police are hoping a new law will help cut down on teenager drinking this prom season. The state's new Social Host Law carries heavy penalties for both underage drinkers as well as adults. The goal of the law is to reduce the number of alcohol-related crashes and deaths that police said seem to spike during prom season.A law passed six months ago outlaws house parties where minors are knowingly served alcohol. Under the law, minors face fines of up to $500 and a suspension of driver's licenses for five months.Adults who are aware of the underage drinking face fines as well as prison time for repeat offenders.
