Dodd Discusses Election On Campaign Trail

Senator Says Anything Can Happen In Race

Connecticut Sen. Christopher Dodd has his eyes on the White House, but many consider him to be a long shot, at best.

Channel 3 Eyewitness News reporter Susan Raff reported that Dodd has spent the majority of his time on the road recently, trying to drum up as much support as he can.

Dodd Discusses Election Road Ahead

Dodd received a prized endorsement from 280,000 firefighters across the country while in New Hampshire. The International Association of Firefighters announced that it was backing Dodd for the presidency last week.

"We have done it before -- we put John Kerry at the top of the heap, we helped Al Gore win the election and we look forward to winning this election," said Connecticut firefighter Chris Tracy.

Dodd told Raff that he appreciates the firefighters' support when she caught up with him on the campaign trail.

"I remind people Bill Clinton was at 2 percent in the polls in 1991. In October he was in sixth place and ended up becoming the nominee in January and February," he said.

He said that while he may be doing poorly in the polls, with the election more than a year away -- anything can happen.

"People do not want to be told by the political pundits and others who is going to win this race, they will make up their minds on their own," Dodd said.

Dodd's recent trip to New Hampshire was his 16th.
