List Circulating Would Consider Conn. Governor

Gov. Jodi Rell is on a list of potential vice presidential candidates.

Should U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., win the Republican nomination for president, the Connecticut Republican could join him on the ticket. Lists circulating on political blogs have surfaced in the past week.

When asked about the possibility, Rell said she was happy with the job she was doing now, CBS radio reported. Rell has endorsed McCain's candidacy.

U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman, I-Conn., who also endorsed McCain, was also rumored to be a possible running mate, but he has already said he is not interested.

Among the other names included in the Red State Blog include:

  • Gov. Tim Pawlenty, 47, of Minnesota. He was first elected in 2002 and re-elected in 2006.
  • Gov. Charlie Crist, 51, of Florida was elected in 2007. He has served as the state's attorney general from 2003 to 2007. He gave McCain his endorsement and campaigned with him during the Florida primary.
  • Condoleezza Rice, 53, U.S. Secretary of State since 2005. She was the country's National Security Adviser from 2001 to 2005.
  • Gov. Sarah Palin, 44, of Alaska, took office in 2006 and became the youngest governor in her state's history and the first woman elected governor in Alaska.
  • Gov. Mike Huckabee, 52, of Arkansas. He has been in office from 1996 to 2007 and announced his candidacy for the president in 2007.
  • Rudy Giuliani, 63, former Mayor of New York City from 1994 to 2001. He endorsed McCain for the Republican nomination after dropping out of the race himself.
  • U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe, 60, senior Senator from Maine, assumed office in 1995. Snowe was named one of "America's Top 10 Senators" by Time Magazine in 2006.
  • U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, 52, senior Senator from South Carolina. He was elected in 2003 and has supported McCain's presidential candidacy in 2000 and in 2008.
  • U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, 64, senior Senator from Texas. She was elected in 1993.
  • John Kasich, 55, former member of the U.S. House of Representatives.
  • U.S. Sen. John Thune, 47, of South Dakota. He was elected in 2005 and has endorsed McCain's candidacy.
  • J.C. Watts, 50, of Oklahoma, former member of the U.S. House of Representatives and CNN political contributor.
  • Marsha Blackburn, 55, of Tennessee, former member of the U.S. House of Representatives. She was elected in January 2003.
  • U.S. Sen. Sam Brownback, 51, senior Senator from Kansas, who was elected in 1996. He has endorsed McCain for president.
  • Gov. Haley Barbour, 60, of Mississippi, who assumed office in 2004.
