HARTFORD, Conn. -- A Connecticut judge has postponed a hearing to decide whether the public will get a look at the grand jury report on Hartford Mayor Eddie Perez. New Britain Superior Court Judge Dennis Eveleigh has served as the one-man grand jury and was to hear arguments Monday. He met with with attorneys in his chambers Monday morning before postponing the hearing for one week. The grand jury investigation has been focused on allegations of corruption in Hartford city government. Perez has already pleaded not guilty to charges following his arrest earlier this year."Many of us are a little worried, not just the outcome of this case, but what's happening to the city in general," said Hartford Councilman Larry Deutsch. The councilman said he showed up to the hearing hoping to view the documents."It affects the mayor and City Council in what we do, even in the next few weeks," Deutsch said. "So it's really important, and some of us are just in the habit of looking at things first-hand. That's all, I guess." He's accused of bribery, falsifying evidence and conspiracy to falsify evidence. The charges are related to work done at his house by a city contractor.
