West Haven looks like any other town this time of year. Campaign signs are dotted along the streets but this year is anything but usual.

Michael Dimassa, 18, is running for city council.

Dimassa said, “You don’t have to be progressed in years to listen to people to hear what they want. I started in community service. I was involved with the Red Cross. I was recently nominated to the board of directors.”

Dimassa lost the primary to current city council member Nancy Rossi. However, Dimassa is forging ahead as a write in candidate.

There is a lot of interest in local politics this year. In West Haven, there are three candidates who want to be mayor.

In addition, college freshman Dimassa is confident he has a shot at becoming a city councilor.
