POSTED: 6:09 pm EDT June 20, 2007

(Sports Network) - The New England Revolution announced Wednesday that midfielder/defender Joe Franchino has been placed on the season-ending injury list by Major League Soccer. As a result, the Revolution will receive roster relief, meaning that the Revolution may sign another player to replace Franchino on the 18-player senior roster.

Franchino has a longitudinal tear the peroneal tendon in his right ankle, and will undergo reconstructive surgery on July 2. George Theodore, M.D., will perform the surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital. Franchinos expected recovery and rehabilitation period is six months.

Franchino appeared in three games this season for a total of 57 minutes. He entered the 2007 tied with teammate Jay Heaps for the Revolution club record for career starts (155).

The Revs also announced Wednesday that the club had waived midfielder Daniel Hernandez. Hernandez spent parts of five seasons (2002-03, 2005-07) with the team, but had yet to appear in a game this season. He made a total of 42 regular-season appearances with the Revs, scoring three goals and adding three assists.
