Some Connecticut Red Sox fans who have been waiting 60 years to see their team on cable TV had their wish granted Tuesday.

Fans filled the Blasius Recreation Center Tuesday to celebrate Comcast's decision to carry New England Sports Network coverage of Red Sox games in the area.

Representatives from the Red Sox organization came to Waterbury to thank faithful fans for waiting.

Channel 3 Eyewitness News reporter spoke with Red Sox President Larry Lucchino.

"How do you explain fans that will hang in this long to get the Sox on TV?" Kain asked.

"I think there's something in the genes or water supply," Lucchino answered. "They know they're part of a larger New England fan base … and that they are passionate members of the nation and we're here to express our gratitude to them for their patience and their loyalty."

Sox reporter Tom Caron said that he couldn't imagine going through life without being able to watch the Sox on TV.

"I can't imagine anybody going through that, I'd go out of my mind. We're glad we could put the wait to an end," he said.

Waterbury fans were treated to Fenway Franks and hung out with mascot Wally.

"I think it's great for Red Sox fans around here," said Joe Ouimet, of Wolcott. "I think we even have some Yankee fans who like to watch the games too. It's a great area to be in if you can get Mets, Yankees and Red Sox (on TV) so this is baseball territory."

Ouimet said he ended up getting Direct TV two years ago after growing tired of listening to the Sox on the radio.

"I'm a long-time fan," said Dick Johnson, of Prospect. "I'm a long-time fan since 1948. I didn't think I'd live long enough (to see the Sox on TV)."
