A University of Connecticut athlete, and Olympic hopeful, was arrested on Thursday.

Daniel Hutcherson, 23, a triple-jumper set to graduate UConn this weekend, was charged with criminal possession of a weapon.

Police said Hutcherson attempted to purchase a rifle at Cabela's in East Hartford, even though there is a protective order against him.

While police haven't commented on the nature of the protective order, UConn police said Hutcherson has a substance abuse problem.

Campus police said Hutcherson has been behaving erratically recently.
