GAME NOTES: The Nebraska Cornhuskers will try to build some much-needed momentum when they welcome the Baylor Bears to Memorial Stadium for a Big 12 Conference clash. Last weekend, Nebraska snapped a three-game slide by going out on the road and routing Iowa State, 35-7. The Cornhuskers opened their season with five straight home games, and they will close out their schedule by playing three of their final five games in Lincoln. They really need a win in this one, considering Oklahoma and Kansas are the next two opponents on the docket. As for the Bears, they'd like to forget last week's 34-6 loss against Oklahoma State. With the setback, BU has now dropped three of its last four games. The Bears also face a daunting schedule in the next few weeks, with the likes of Texas, Missouri and Texas Tech waiting on the horizon. Nebraska has beaten Baylor in nine of the 10 previous meetings, with Baylor's lone win coming back in 1956.

Against Oklahoma State, Robert Griffin extended his streak of pass attempts without an interception to start a career to 155. In doing so, he set the Football Bowl Subdivision record for a freshman. However, that's about the only good news to come out of last Saturday's loss. Griffin did lose a third- quarter fumble, which ended an impressive streak of four games without a turnover. Giveaways or not, the Baylor offense was downright inept, totaling only six points and 204 yards of total offense. The Bears were hardly able to sustain any drives, and as a result they yielded a 13-minute edge in time of possession.

Defensively, Baylor had no answer for speedy Cowboy wideout Dez Bryant, who hauled in 11 passes for 212 yards and two TDs. He accounted for all but 26 of OSU's passing yards. The Cornhuskers have a few dangerous weapons in their passing game, so it will be paramount for the Bears to read their keys. They also must learn not to dwell on big plays. Oklahoma State scored touchdowns on four straight possessions in the first half, which ultimately deflated the Bears on both sides of the ball. Joe Pawelek had a game-high 14 tackles (three for loss) to go along with two pass breakups. Jordan Lake finished with 12 stops.

Nebraska enters this tilt with the nation's 12th-ranked passing attack. Still, the Huskers are just sixth in the Big 12 in that department, which just goes to show the caliber of passing games in the conference. Joe Ganz has been steady under center. Last weekend, he helped guide a sharp Nebraska offense that racked up 349 yards and a 21-0 lead by halftime. Ganz finished with 328 yards and a touchdown on 27-of-37 passing. The Cornhuskers were able to impose their will, converting 7-of-13 third downs en route to a 15-minute edge in time of possession.

Last week's 35-7 win was a big one for Nebraska's defense, considering the Cornhuskers had allowed an average of 41 points per game over the previous three weeks. Under a defensive-minded coach like Bo Pelini, Nebraska was not expected to allow such crooked numbers. But they shut the door on Iowa State, allowing only 218 yards of total offense. They really clamped down on third downs, allowing the Cyclones to convert only 2-of-13 opportunities. As a unit, Nebraska forced three fumbles and broke up seven passes. On the season, the defense hasn't made a whole lot of plays in the passing game. No player has recorded more than one interception, and Zach Potter leads the team with three sacks.

Ganz will have plenty of opportunities to air it out in this one. If Baylor isn't able to limit the big plays, it could be another long day for the Bears' secondary.
