GAME NOTES: Longtime rivals are set to square off in Waco, Texas, as the Baylor Bears host the Texas A&M Aggies in the 105th installment of the Battle of the Brazos. Texas A&M has won 11 of the last 12 meetings in the series since the Big 12 Conference commenced in 1996. The Aggies were overwhelmed by fifth-ranked Oklahoma last weekend, 66-28. The loss snapped the team's brief two-game win streak. The Aggies will have a bye next week, and then wrap up their schedule at No. 4 Texas on November 27th. As for the Bears, they come into this game trying to snap a four-game slide. They've fought hard against the likes of Missouri and Texas the last two weeks, only to come away on the wrong side of the final score. Baylor has fallen victim to a tough schedule this season, as five of the team's seven losses have come against teams ranked in the Top-25 when they played. In terms of the all-time series between these two schools, Texas A&M holds a 65-30-9 edge, which includes last year's 34-10 victory.

One of the few bright spots in the Aggies' lopsided loss to Oklahoma was that senior quarterback Stephen McGee returned to the lineup in the third quarter. McGee won the starting gig in the fall, but he has been sidelined with a shoulder injury for the last five games. He came in last week and replaced an ineffective Jerrod Johnson, who had completed just 11-of-31 passes for 162 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. McGee finished 10-of-19 for 82 yards. After the game, McGee, who still isn't 100 percent by his own admission, said he had no idea his number would be called. Throughout the season, head coach Mike Sherman has relied on a solid passing game from his offense. After all, the Aggies are averaging a respectable 252 passing yards per game, while they rank 108th in the nation with only 102 rushing yards per contest.

Texas A&M return man Cyrus Gray returned a kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown and finished with a school-record 261 kick return yards. While the record is surely nice for Gray, all it really means is that the Aggies special teams got lots of work because the defense kept giving up points. OU quarterback Sam Bradford picked the Aggies apart for 320 yards and four touchdowns. On the ground, the Sooners combined for an almost identical 328 yards and four TDs. By game's end, OU had averaged 8.8 yards per play. Coach Sherman was quick to deem the Sooners the best team he's seen this year, though doesn't exactly make up for the fact that his defense didn't create any turnovers, and they forced only three punts in 16 OU possessions. With a significant drop-off in the competition level this week, it will be interesting to see what kind of effort Sherman gets from his defense.

Under the direction of freshman quarterback Robert Griffin, the Baylor offense has made steady progress from week to week. It was only two weeks ago that Griffin threw his first interception of the season, as he set an NCAA record for most passes at the start of a career without an interception (209). On the season, Griffin is completing 59 percent of his passes while averaging 176 passing yards per game. But he's really added an extra dimension to the offense with his legs, as he leads the team with 688 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground. He struggled in the passing game last week against Texas, completing only 6-of-19 passes for 71 yards (TD, INT), but he made up for it with 101 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Griffin has been a nice complement to tailback Jay Finley, who is averaging 5.8 yards per carry and has scored eight times. Kendall Wright has been the team's most consistent wideout, having caught 43 passes for 564 yards and four TDs -- all team-highs.

Like most teams that have faced Texas, the Bears had trouble limiting the damage from Heisman-hopeful quarterback Colt McCoy, who threw for 300 yards and five touchdowns. And although the Bears didn't allow a 100-yard rusher, they did yield more than five yards per carry from the Longhorns' top two backs. Currently, Baylor ranks ninth in the conference in both total defense and scoring defense. Playing in the quarterback-rich Big 12, the Bears have expectedly struggled against top-notch passing attacks. At his weekly press conference, head coach Art Briles said the team has game-planned for both A&M quarterbacks. He also expressed confidence that the defense will be ready to slow the Aggies' weapons in the passing game. One thing is for sure: there will be no next time for the Bears' seniors as this contest marks their last game at Floyd Casey Stadium.

Baylor will no doubt be happy not to have to face the likes of Missouri or Texas for a change. Still, at 3-7, coach Briles knows his team can't afford to take anyone lightly. The Aggies have had the hot hand in this series of late, but the Bears have been playing better in recent weeks.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Baylor 34, Texas A&M 24
