UConn To Meet Buffalo In International Bowl

Storrs, CT (Sports Network) - The University of Connecticut has accepted an invitation to play in the International Bowl against Buffalo.

The game will take place on January 3, 2009 in Toronto at the Rogers Centre.

The Huskies finished the regular season with a 34-10 loss Saturday to then-No. 23 Pittsburgh, dropping their record to 7-5 and 3-4 in the Big East.

The contest will be UConn's second consecutive bowl, as the Huskies played in the Meineke Car Care Bowl last season, losing to Wake Forest. They have made three bowl trips in the past five seasons, including the 2004 Motor City Bowl.

"We are very excited to be playing in the International Bowl in the beautiful city of Toronto," said UConn head coach Randy Edsall. "I think it is a strong statement to the development of our program as we have now played in bowl games in back-to-back years for the first time our history."

The Huskies will meet Buffalo, which is fresh off its first-ever MAC Championship and headed to its first-ever bowl appearance. Buffalo upset previously unbeaten and 12th-ranked Ball State 42-24 in the MAC Championship on Friday.
