No. 17 Arizona State Cruises Past Central Connecticut State

POSTED: 12:40 am EST December 30, 2008

(Sports Network) - James Harden scored a game-high 24 points and dished out six assists as 17th-ranked Arizona State breezed past Central Connecticut State, 84-47, at Wells-Fargo Arena.

Ty Abbott contributed 15 points for the Sun Devils (11-1), who have ripped off seven straight wins in advance of their Pac-10 opener at Stanford on Friday. Jeff Pendergraph added 14 points.

Ken Horton picked up 12 points for the Blue Devils (5-6), losers in three of four.

Shemik Thompson's layup with 5:18 played in the game pulled the Blue Devils within one point, but the Sun Devils gained separation with a 14-2 run from there.

Pendergraph's lay-in started it and a slam from Harden ended it with 10:41 left in the half. A three from Rihards Kuksiks gave ASU its first 20-plus point lead at 32-11 then two from the line by Jerren Shipp made it 49-22 at the break.

Pendergraph opened the second half with a dunk and Kuksiks drained another three and Arizona State was ahead 54-22.

The lead reached as high as 44, at 71-27, with just under 13 minutes remaining on an Eric Boateng layup and the home team cruised for the remainder of the contest.

Game Notes

Every Sun Devil starter scored in double figures. Kuksiks picked up 11 points and Derek Glasser had 10 to round out the top five...It was the first-ever meeting between the schools.
