Auburn, AL -- (Sports Network) - Auburn has signed women's basketball coach Nell Fortner to a six-year contract extension. The deal will pay her at least $570,000 a year plus incentives, with a base salary of $226,800 and the remainder coming from endorsements and radio and television deals. Additionally, the contract includes raises for advancing in the NCAA Tournament and bonuses for meeting certain benchmarks. Fortner guided the team to a 30-4 season and its first Southeastern Conference regular-season title in 20 years. However, the team was beaten by Rutgers in the second round of the NCAA tourney. "I'm very appreciative of (athletics director) Jay Jacobs for his support and vision of women's basketball at Auburn," Fortner said. "The past five years have been phenomenal. We've experienced a tremendous amount of growth and had an outpouring of support from the Auburn family, with great crowds and a lot of excitement about Auburn women's basketball." Over her five years at Auburn, Fortner's teams have gone 101-57, which includes 71 wins over the last three seasons. She also coached the U.S. women to gold at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
