Central Michigan Extends Guevara

POSTED: 1:47 pm EDT May 13, 2009

(Sports Network) - Central Michigan extended the contract of women's basketball coach Sue Guevara for five years through the 2013-14 season on Wednesday.

Since taking the reins after the 2006-07 campaign, she has guided the team to a 24-37 mark.

This past season, her squad posted a mark of 18-14, the most wins for the school since a 21-win season in 1990-91.

"I am proud to announce that we have signed a new five-year contract with Sue Guevara," said director of athletics Dave Heeke. "I felt it was important to acknowledge the commitment and passion that Sue has shown in building the foundation for a successful program in just two years. I have full confidence that this foundation will lead to a championship-level program for years to come."

The Chippewas also had their first postseason victory since 1992 with a 67-59 victory over Akron in the first round of the Mid-American Conference.

"I would like to thank President Rao, Dave Heeke and our entire administration for the support they have shown for myself and our program," said Guevara. "The foundation we have built over the past two years would not have been possible without their support along with the hard work and dedication of my entire staff."
