Blueshirts Sign F Brashear

POSTED: 3:21 pm EDT July 1, 2009

(Sports Network) - The New York Rangers agreed to terms with free agent enforcer forward Donald Brashear on Wednesday.

Brashear spent his last three seasons with Washington and in the last campaign he had one goal and three assists, along with a team-leading 121 penalty minutes.

Brashear will take over the enforcer role for the Rangers, as previous tough guy Colton Orr signed with the Maple Leafs earlier Wednesday.

Since breaking into the league with the Montreal Canadiens in the 1993-94 season, Brashear has appeared in 989 games and has 85 goals and 119 assists. His 2,561 career penalty minutes rank 18th on the all-time list. He has also played for Vancouver and Philadelphia.
