Jets Release '08 Draft Pick Henry, 18 Others

POSTED: 4:40 pm EDT September 5, 2009

(Sports Network) - Wide receiver Marcus Henry, a sixth-round draft choice of the New York Jets in 2008, was among the 20 players released as the team reduced its roster to the 53-player maximum on Saturday.

It was thought that the 6-foot-4 Henry, a former Kansas University star, might be able to help a receiving corps that will be short on experience heading into 2009. But Henry was not able to make enough of an impression during the preseason, catching just two passes for 31 yards during the warm-up period, and was subsequently released.

In addition to Henry, the following players were trimmed from the roster: cornerback Rashad Barksdale, tight ends Kevin Brock and Kareem Brown, running back Jehuu Caulcrick, fullback Brock Christopher, safety Emanuel Cook, linebacker Kenwin Cummings, offensive lineman Stanley Daniels, wide receiver Britt Davis, kicker Parker Douglass, running back Anthony Kimble, defensive lineman Matt Kroul, tackle Nevin McCaskill, tackle Ryan McKee, center Michael Parenton, defensive end Zach Potter, tight end Jack Simmons, and defensive linemen Ty Steinkuhler.

Notables among that group include Barksdale, who played in six games as a member of the Chiefs in 2007, and Steinkuhler, the son of former Nebraska star, Lombardi Trophy and Outland Trophy winner Dean Steinkuhler.

Wide receiver Aundrae Allison, who limped off the field in the team's final preseason game against Philadelphia on Thursday night, was replaced on season- ending injured reserve with an unspecified injury.

Elsewhere on the roster, defensive end Shaun Ellis and linebacker Calvin Pace will begin the season on the Jets' reserve/suspended list. Ellis will miss one game for violation of the league's substance abuse policy, while Pace is suspended for the first four games due to a violation of the NFL's policy on banned substances.

The Jets open their season on Sept. 13th, when they open the Rex Ryan/Mark Sanchez era at the Houston Texans.
