Colts Promote Younger Polian To General Manager

POSTED: 4:55 pm EST November 27, 2009

(Sports Network) - The Indianapolis Colts announced Friday that Chris Polian has been promoted to vice president and general manager.

The son of Colts president Bill Polian, Chris, 38, was signed to an undisclosed long-term contract and will oversee the day-to-day operations of the club.

"Chris has been involved in every aspect of our football operations for the past 12 years," said team owner Jim Irsay. "His direct contributions are part of the reasons why the Colts have been among the league's top teams for an extended period of time."

Chris Polian has been with the team since 1998, when he served as director of pro scouting for three years. He was then given the title of assistant director of football operations from 2001-03 and assistant general manager/football operations in 2004. Before Friday's promotion, he was in the midst of his fifth season as the team's vice president of football operations.

Prior to his stint with the Colts, Polian worked for the Carolina Panthers for four years.
