Mike Hydeck

Eyewitness News This Morning Anchor, Reporter

Mike Hydeck comes home to Connecticut, joining Eyewitness News This Morning as an anchor in September 2006.

A Connecticut native, Mike was born in Bridgeport, raised in Monroe and he has lived in East Lyme, Middletown, New Britain, Bridgeport and West Hartford. He also has extended family all over the state.

In fact, Mike's first television job was behind the scenes right here at WFSB-TV in 1992.

"It's so great to be back home. For the first time in almost 15 years, I will be able to see all of the UConn football and basketball games," Mike said of his return home.

Mike graduated from Masuk High School in Monroe and he earned his communications degree at the University of Connecticut.

Mike aspired to become a journalist after meeting Tom Brokaw while in college. Several years later, while covering a debate between President George W. Bush and former Vice President Al Gore, Mike again ran into Brokaw and told him how much of an impact he made on his life.

Mike said Brokaw then gave him advice, addressing him as a younger colleague.

Before coming to WFSB, Mike was a weekend morning anchor and reporter at WBZ-TV in Boston. He has also worked at stations in Asheville, N.C.; Bristol, Va.; and Springfield, Mass.

In his free time, Mike enjoys running, golfing, listening to country music, playing the guitar and reading biographies.
