According to police spokesman Don Aaron, Kendrya Davis' remains were found at about 4:30 a.m. in an abandoned home on Cass Street.
Aaron said there were visible signs of trauma to Davis' body, and that an autopsy on Monday will determine the exact cause of death.
On Thursday night, Davis' ex-boyfriend, Jose Hall, surrendered to police on an unrelated trespassing charge. He remained in jail Sunday.
"We know that during the day Monday, there was a fight between the two," Aaron said. "(It was) probably a physical fight between the two. We had had phone conversations with Hall earlier in the week. He had declined to come in and talk to our investigators."
Hall missed a scheduled court appearance Thursday, after which a judge issued a warrant for his arrest. Hall turned himself in, and after his booking, investigators pressed him on his connection to Davis and her disappearance.
"Hall was interviewed by our investigators and claimed to have no knowledge about the whereabouts of Ms. Davis," Aaron said.
According to police, Hall may have ties to a local gang. On Sunday, he was being held in lieu of $20,000 bond.
