STORRS, CT (WFSB) -

Police at the University of Connecticut said that the report of a man who was robbed at gunpoint on campus was made up.

Police said they have been actively investigating the incident. Officer said that for the safety of the community and the solicitation of information regarding the alleged incident, a notification was sent out that included portions of the victim's description of the person responsible.

During the investigation, police said, discrepancies in the details that were provided to the officers by the alleged victim were revealed. It was found that the victim could not provide accurate information to investigators to create a composite sketch, and then was discovered that the incident was made up for person reasons.

The alleged victim initially told police that a man approached him in the basement level of the Torrey Life Science building late Wednesday night, showed a handgun and demanded money.

UConn police are continuing to investigate the incident and said that they would discuss the incident with the Tolland County State's Attorney's office to determine if charges can be filed.
