[Comment From Guest Guest : ]
I have a friend who suffered an AVM aneurysm almost 3 years ago. Though he has come along way, his short term memory is compromised and I wondered if there is anything new available beyond the standard forms of therapy that he has already exhausted. We also tried bio-feedback which had some promise but is not looked at as a therapy and not covered by insurance.

I would suggest that you make an appointment with neuropsychologist for further evaluation and possible remediation. Has your friend been treated for the AVM/aneurysm?

While there is some hereditary factors it is difficult to determine if he has aneursym. The first step would be to speak with Primary Care Physician and possibly a referral will be made for an MRI

recently begun having sudden severe headaches during orgasms. Have had a dull, intermittant headache since the last one, (Monday), and some pain in the right side of my neck. I'm a 58 year old female, Could this be an indication of a stroke? I have HTN but controlled with meds.

My 36 year old son died of an aneuryzm this past December 15th. I have two other children, 34 and 38, as well as my son's three small children. Should my children be checked. They have been told that brain aneuryzms are not heredity. Also, my daughter-in law said that their pediatrician said that my grandchildren don't need to be checked. What do you suggest.

Hartford Hospital:
While aneurysms may be hereditary it is difficult to definitively tell you what the actual risks are. In general, screening may be accomplished through MRI scanning of the brain. However, this may not be covered by the insurance company if there are no symptoms. If you wish to discuss this further we recommend that you contact us at 545-4100

I am a 48 year old female with family history of aneurysms on my mothers side. They have ranged from the brain to the stomach. I did have an MRI to look for weak blood vessels in my brain over 15 years ago and the results were negative. I do not have high blood pressure, eat well, exercise regularly, and have normal cholesterol levels. I have asked my doctor to be retested but he has indicated that the original test results were sufficient and that further testing would not be necessary. Is this something I should push for?

My husband had a stroke 7/2009 when he was 49 yrs old - although he recovered nicely, he still has some speech problems (forgetting words, garbled at times, etc); he also has numbness and tingling right hand and right leg drags (when he is tired). he is currently unemployed and he has no insurance (pre-existing condition) his mother had a stroke in her 30's and his niece had one at 28. The hand is the thing that bothers him the most. Any thoughts? Thanks so much and the program on tv was very interesting.

I have had two strokes, and seven small (forget the name) and last time lost my site for about 6 months in left eye. I have been wanting to get a better evaluation on my stroke risks etc. My rumatologist sorry spelling) had both temple biopsy and it show a old band of Giant Cell Artiritis? Should I be concerned. My husband and I have heard about Hartford Storke Center and he said that is where I am going the next time after my care at another hospital, upon arrival. It was insane how casual and how long I was left etc. I agree with him. Can I just call and make an appointment and be evaluated so IF the time comes you will have records on me? I am very concerned about this. Thank you
