On the seventh day after a winter storm knocked out power throughout the state, 259,000 Connecticut Light & Power customers remain in the dark.
At a morning press conference, Gov. Dannel Malloy and Jeff Butler, the head of CL& P, said National Guard troops were in Simsbury and Avon Thursday night working to clear roads.
Much of the Farmington Valley still remains without power, including Butler who had a generator at his home in the valley before it failed.
Currently, there are 1,749 tree and line crews working, more than during Tropical Storm Irene, and 100 more are expected to arrive on Friday.
Butler said over the next 24 hours, he expects to restore power to 100,000 customers, and the total number of outages down brought down to 200,000 by Saturday morning.
Butler said the utility company is still focused on restoring power to 99 percent of its customers by Sunday.
