NEW LONDON, CT (WFSB) -

Dozens of people had to find another place to sleep Thursday night after a fire at a halfway house in New London.

It happened at about 9 p.m. on Huntington Street.

Fire crews believe the flames started in a third floor bedroom. Someone who lives at the facility said the entire group was actually walking back to the house when they noticed smoke coming from the upper floor.

The American Red Cross is now making sure those people have a place to stay.

A cause of the fire is still under investigation.
